Decorating a Nursery for Twins
Decorating for twins isn’t double
work but twice the fun. You don’t have to buy two of everything, except if you
plan on having separate nurseries right from the beginning. The idea behind a
well thought out twin nursery is to harmonize the themes.
Twin Girls’ Nursery
Not everyone wants to have
matching items for twins. It’s a good idea to give some individuality even if
you are having identical twins. You can actually have matching rooms or
beddings without them being identical. The way around this is to switch things
around. Take for instance bedding set with a stripe pattern on the bumper and
checkered dust skirt, a complementary set will give you the reverse, or replace
the check with a solid or polka dot pattern. This is a very simple example that
works well. Colour changes are also winners, but pick hues from the same family
or that go together. When deciding, make sure you pick a pair that will enable
you find accessories easily, like pink and green or yellow and lilac. Examples
of complementary themes which may or may not be in the same colours are flowers
and butterflies, fairies and princesses, etc.
Twin Girl-Boy or Gender Neutral
Nursery
No where near as hard as it
sounds! You can indeed have a mixed gender nursery without any pink. On the subject
of colours, green and yellow are popular and calming as well as monochromatic
schemes like black and white, chocolate and cream, etc. Safari themed bedding
are very popular like Gordonsbury’s On Safari which comes in blue, yellow or
green colourways. An alternative is to go for complementary themes like teddies
and bunnies.
Twin Boys’ Nursery
Combining shades of blue
interspersed with red is a great choice, depending on your preference. We
suggest this because as your baby grows, denims will become a real part of
their lives and there is never any shortage of blues for boys. Red makes the
room “pop” as opposed to being bland and boring. Also accessories in these
colours are plentiful. Transportation themes are also popular and you can
hardly go wrong by combining cars with trains, or planes with sailboats- the
options are limitless. Jungle and Safari also work well for boys as do bunnies
and teddies. You can go simple with all white bedding set with hints of navy
blue on one and red or green on the other. The walls can be a nice pale colour
of blue or white with wall décor- art, borders in the bright colours found on
the bedding set.
