Designing a Teenage Bedroom
to follow. Until of course you ask
their opinion (LOL!)
Seriously, start with a blank
canvas in mind. Remove any preferences you may have and have an open mind. With
teenagers it might be easier to start with the theme and then go on from there.
Having a theme does not necessarily have to be an obvious one like sports for
boys. When dealing with teenage bedrooms a theme translates into feeling and
atmosphere. What sort of atmosphere are they after? A 14 year old looking to
show off his football trophies can have his room decorated in various shades of
his team’s colours and finished with a football canvas art or a favourite photo
transferred onto canvas. A wall shelf should display his trophies and medals. In
the same vein, a gothic princess can still have her theme, just classy and even
likeable with the right furniture and décor, using just the right amount of
black. We love the Cinderella bed in black!
Furniture should be functional.
Does your daughter like to have sleepovers? Think under bed trundle and daybed
if space allows. A double bed is also a good investment for your growing child
and again helps with the extra guest. A daybed doubles as a seating area and
can be dressed up with a bed crown and drapes to look pretty. You’ll also do
well to have a nightstand or bedside cabinet, good for a bedside lamp, mobile
phone and bedtime drink. Finally where furniture is concerned invest in a good study
desk with ample storage. For girls, a vanity set will bring a smile to her
face. Vanity sets came complete with a mirror and can be purchased as part of a
complete bedroom set. The Cinderella bed is a canopy bed that comes with a matching
vanity set, both available in feminine colours of pink, white, gold, etc.
Choose bedding that is made
interesting with pattern and texture as opposed to colours. This allows you the
freedom to vary look of the room frequently by changing out pillows and
accessories only. Teenage bedding sets should grow with your child to
accommodate changing needs. It is recommended that that window treatment fabric
be pulled from the bedding in an easy to coordinate matching fabric. This means
that if the bedding is a mixture of checks and stripes go for stripes and
solids for the curtains. This makes the windows versatile and easy to go with
new bedding in the future.
Décor. We recommend incorporating
personal picks for accessories. This includes drawings, posters of favorite
artistes, etc. With the poster situation, choose to have them framed or again
transferred onto canvas to give a more attractive look. Personalized art is a great compliment to any
room. A lot of artwork can now be personalised at the time of placing the
order. Wall shelves can become home to favorite stuffed animals or trophies.
Choose fun rugs to brighten up a
dull room, or simply to add interest and colour. Fun rugs needn’t be the same
colour as the bedding, ideally the darker the shade, the better.
Finally while good lighting is
essential, it doesn’t have to be boring. Be adventurous when choosing light
fixtures. Lighting styles range from safari and sport to flowers and fairies.
