NBA - Cavaliers Get Their 37th Victory in the Season against Pistons
The current Central Division leaders and second place of the Eastern
Conference, the Cleveland Cavaliers, got their 37th victory of the
season by beating the Detroit Pistons 90-80 on Sunday. In their
previous meeting against the Pistons, the Cavs had some troubles and
lost against them as visitors. Nevertheless, this time the story
changed while winning last night in great way against Detroit. All
Cavs’ players were incredible and their superstar Lebron James ended
with 33 points even though he was resting at the bench in the first 3
minutes of the fourth quarter, but came back to enclose the win.
During the first quarter, things were equally managed for the two
teams but Detroit ended that quarter 18-16 on its favor. The Pistons
kept the lead during the second and the third quarter by playing well
and taking their lead to 8 points in hands of Iverson at the end of the
third quarter. However, the Cavaliers came strong at the beginning of
the fourth quarter and even with their superstar LeBron James resting
at the bench, his teammates Mo Williams and Daniel Gibson took the
control and had a run of 15-2 over the Pistons. Gibson made his 7
points in the first 1:30 minutes of that fourth quarter. Moreover, with
just 7:33 minutes left in the game, James came in adding 8 points and 2
assists and his dagger to the Pistons was his three-pointer with just
3:05 minutes left. The Pistons tried to come back but their turnovers
and miss shots didn’t help at the end.
The best scorers for the Cavaliers were Lebron James with 33 points
and 8 assists, Mo Williams with 22 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and
Zydrunas Ilgauskas with 13 points and 8 rebounds. For the Pistons,
Allen Iverson was the higher scorer with 22 points, then Richard
Hamilton from the bench with 16 points, Tayshaun Prince with 11 points
and finally Amir Johnson with 10 points and 9 rebounds.
After the game the Piston’s coach Michael Curry was disappointed
because he knew his team did well on the first three quarters. "I just
thought through the first three quarters we had done the job, done
exactly what we wanted to do. And then we get into the fourth and for
whatever reason, we just made too many mistakes," expressed Coach Curry.
This is the sixth victory of seven games for Cleveland, which
remains unbeatable at home with 22-0 and with an outstanding
performance as visitors with a record of 15-9. As for the Pistons,
they have lost 9 of the last 12 games and are trying to find their path
to the winning ways which they haven’t found yet over the course of the
season. Now the Cavs are 12 victories ahead of the Pistons, who are in
the second place of the Central Division at the Eastern Conference.
The next game for the Cleveland Cavaliers (37-9) will be against the
Toronto Raptors at their home Quicken Loans Arena on Tuesday February
3rd. On the other hand, the Detroit Pistons will face the Miami Heat on
Wednesday, February 4th also at home The Palace of Auburn Hills Arena
and it will be an interesting game since they are both with 25 wins and
21 losses.
